Dear Spencer Families,
We are currently experiencing some very different times, temporarily. In regard to our current situation regarding COVID-19, and in efforts to reduce the spread of the virus and protect our community and beyond, Chicago Public Schools has made the decision to extend the closure of schools to April 30, 2020. This decision was made to work to limit the spread of illness throughout our city. We want to assure you that at Spencer, we are working diligently, with the teachers and staff to ensure that we have the resources available to support our families to make it a smooth transition into remote learning. Your child/ren will receive instruction from their teachers regarding this process and additional information will be provided as we move forward.
We will have learning packets online and for any families that are unable to participate in the remote learning program, we will have the learning packets available at Spencer. All families will be able to pick up learning packets, along with meals at Spencer from Monday -Friday, between 9 a.m and 1 p.m. daily. If you are only in need of meals, you can pick them up from any CPS school between the same hours.

Greetings Parents, Families, Staff and Students of Spencer Academy:
My name is Bridget Harris and I’m extremely happy to join the Spencer family as the new Assistant Principal. I’m very passionate about education and I look forward to partnering with you to provide our students with a rigorous, engaging, and high-quality experience. As a parent, I recognize the importance of a strong home-school connection. Parents are every child’s first teacher and I believe that by working together, we can make sure your child’s social, emotional, and academic needs are met each day.
Before joining Spencer, I served in a variety of teaching and educational leadership roles over the past 17 years. Some of the roles I have held include classroom teacher, PD Specialist, and K-8 assistant principal. My academic background includes a Master of Arts in Education, a Master of Arts in Administration and Supervision, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
I believe that great schools are the results of great teachers, so my primary objective will be to ensure that every student is receiving high-quality instruction from every teacher at Spencer. In order to do this, I will be providing teachers with feedback on their instruction, access to professional development, and reaching out to parents for support with academic and behavioral concerns to ensure our students are prepared for college and 21st century careers.
I will be working closely with our Principal, Mrs. Fox, to guarantee that all of our students are intellectually challenged and have access to the social and emotional support that is critical to students during their elementary years. Please commit to being active participants in this process with us. We cannot do it without you.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve the students, families and staff of Spencer!! I look forward to working with you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share.
